GovBot Product Recalls
Read-only access to federal recall records: NHTSA vehicle, equipment, tire and child-seat recall campaigns, VIN decoding, and FDA enforcement reports for drug, food and medical device recalls. No account or sign-in is required.
Sources
- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): the Product Information Catalog and Vehicle Listing (vPIC) for VIN decoding, and the NHTSA recalls API for recall campaigns by make, model and model year or by campaign number.
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA): openFDA drug, food and device enforcement reports, the data of FDA's weekly Enforcement Report.
Each result states the publishing agency, service, endpoint and retrieval time; FDA results also state openFDA's last-updated date. Agency responses are held for up to six hours to limit repeat requests. FDA content is provided under the openFDA terms and license (open.fda.gov/terms).
Available operations
- Decode a 17-character vehicle identification number (make, model, model year, body class, assembly plant).
- NHTSA recall campaigns for a make, model and model year.
- One NHTSA recall campaign by campaign number, with the vehicles it covers.
- Search FDA drug, food and medical device recall enforcement reports by product words, reason, recalling firm, classification, status, report date or recall number.
The MCP endpoint is https://recalls.govbot.ai/mcp.
Scope and support
Recalls are reported in the agency's own wording and classification. A listing for a make, model and model year is not the recall status of one vehicle; NHTSA's recall lookup at nhtsa.gov/recalls and the manufacturer show whether a recall is open on a specific VIN. No result is a determination that a vehicle or product is safe or unsafe, and no result is medical, legal or repair advice. The service holds no vehicle owner or registration data and does not include adverse-event reports. FDA's openFDA service allows a limited number of requests a day for each network address; when that allowance is used, the service reports it as a typed limit message. GovBot is not affiliated with or endorsed by NHTSA, the U.S. Department of Transportation, FDA or any government agency.
